This policy explains what data the Growia Android application (“the App”), developed by Atenso, processes, why and how. For questions, write to atensostudio@gmail.com.

Summary

Data stored on your phone

Photos you take or pick in Smart Tools (Light Meter, Watering Meter, Pot Check, Health Analysis) are used temporarily for the analysis only and are deleted when you leave the tool. If you choose to add a health analysis photo to a plant’s journal or to create a rescue plan, the photo and a short analysis note are kept like your other journal photos. The Window Compass uses the phone’s orientation sensor; it needs no permission and reads no location.

This data is kept in the App’s private area on the phone and is not shared with other apps. Photos are downscaled when saved; extra information inside the photo (EXIF), including location, is not kept — only the capture date is read.

Android’s automatic backup to your Google account includes only app preferences such as text size; your plants, notes, care history and photos are not part of that backup. When you transfer from an Android 12 or newer phone to a new phone by cable or direct transfer, this data does move to the new phone together with the photos; that transfer does not go to the cloud. Your account details are not transferred; to use the cloud backup you need to sign in again on the new phone.

Permissions

The App does not ask for contacts, microphone or phone permissions, nor for precise (GPS) location.

Signing in with Google and cloud backup (optional)

When you sign in with Google:

The purpose of processing this data is so that you do not lose your data and can restore it when you change phones. Data is transferred over an encrypted connection (TLS). Firebase services are provided by Google; data may be processed in Google’s data centres outside Türkiye. For providing and securing the service, Google may process technical information such as the IP address during the connection. For details see the Firebase privacy disclosure: firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Ads (Google AdMob)

Banner ads served by Google AdMob are shown at the bottom of the App’s main screens. To show and measure ads and to prevent abuse, Google may process:

Your plants, notes, care history and photos are not used for advertising and are not sent to Google. In regions that require consent, such as the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the App shows Google’s consent form for personalised ads; you can change your choice under Settings > Ad privacy options. How Google uses advertising data: policies.google.com/technologies/ads

Premium subscription and payment

The Premium subscription is bought through Google Play; your payment, billing and card details are processed only by Google, and the App never sees them. To know whether Premium is on, the App only asks Google Play for the status of your subscription (whether it is active) and stores that status on your phone. You can manage or cancel your subscription in Google Play > Payments & subscriptions.

In-app review

The App may once show Google Play’s own review window. Any rating or review you give goes directly to Google Play; the App cannot see it.

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the App crashes, technical details of the error (which screen and which line of code), your device model, Android and App version and a random installation ID are sent to Google’s Firebase Crashlytics service. This information is used only to find and fix bugs and is kept for 90 days. Your plants, photos, notes and account details are not sent. You can turn this off at any time with Settings > Send crash and performance reports.

Performance measurements (Firebase Performance Monitoring)

To see whether the App runs smoothly, the duration of some operations is measured: app start, opening the camera, taking and loading a photo, loading the plant identification model and the identification itself. Together with these measurements, your device model, Android and App version, the approximate amount of RAM, current memory use and the phone’s thermal state are sent to Google’s Firebase Performance Monitoring service. This information is used only to make the App faster and more stable. Your photos, plants, identification results and account details are not sent. This is controlled by the same switch: if Settings > Send crash and performance reports is turned off, no measurements are sent.

Sharing of data

We do not sell or rent your data to third parties. Google (Firebase) processes the information described above for the cloud backup, and Google (AdMob) for ads. Where legally required, data may be shared with the competent authorities.

Retention and deletion

Your rights

Under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law no. 6698 (KVKK) and the law of the country you are in, you have the right to learn whether your data is processed, to request information, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted and to object to its processing. You can send your requests to atensostudio@gmail.com.

Children

The App is aimed at a general audience and is not designed specifically for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to us and we will delete the related data.

Changes

If this policy is updated, the date above changes. Important changes are announced inside the App.
